App to Compare Domain Prices
Cyber Monday is still at least a good month away, and even then, the deals are limited to new domains or transfers. With so many registrars, and renewal prices often different from the first year’s, I wanted a comprehensive list.
TLD-List is a free website, no account needed, that compares registration, renewal, and transfer prices across registrars. The .com page alone lists 57 registrars, sorted by registration, renewal, transfer, or WHOIS privacy, whichever column you click, with any promo code beside each.
The website doesn’t account for the quality of service each registrar provides. One may argue registrars have leveled off on service and now compete on price, and to a point I would have agreed, before the Mad Tea Party migration. I used my registrar’s hosting service, only for it to go down over their data center issue — not just hosting, but the registrar, DNS management, their own website, the whole nine yards.
Having said that, I am surprised to see a rumor suggesting the said company is also raising its .com renewal price from $18.48 to $19.98 this coming November. I understand raising domain prices is common practice; however, as far as I am aware, the service provider was not only late to communicate the downtime but also never offered any kind of compensation for how long it lasted. In other words, there is no such thing as cheaper domains without asterisks.
