Before iPhone Duo, most iPhone form factors had not changed so drastically. They grew either taller or wider, which is not quite the case with the foldable. I wanted to get an idea of how big, and how small, iPhone Duo will be before pre-orders.

phone-size-templates is a free, open-source set of print-at-actual-size paper templates for phones, including iPhone Duo closed and open. The templates come as printable PDFs for A4 or US Letter, and each page carries a ruler to check against a real one, making sure the print is true to size. It is handy for anyone who is making a pre-order decision without actually holding the physical model in hand.

I printed and cut it out, then compared it against my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Unfolded, it’s roughly 60% bigger. Closed, it’s smaller than the Pro Max, at least by eyeballing it. My Pro Max has become my go-to camera and eBook reader, and I imagine Duo would do both substantially better. For eBooks, a bigger screen is almost always better. I can’t speak for its two cameras against the matching two on my Pro Max, and it did lose the telephoto. But for my purposes, I need a bigger screen for my astrophotography cameras, and they already pack a better telephoto lens.

I’m more or less surprised Apple isn’t providing a tangible printout of the phone. Most people considering pre-ordering would want to know how big it is, how small it can get, and how it would fit into their existing routines.
