Action button replaced the traditional Silent switch in 2023. The idea behind the button is rather opaque. It can be customized as a trigger of any actions, including Shortcuts. It can stay as a Silent switch for those who wish to keep it, or in my case, I use it to call the orientation lock shortcut. It is a button without a purpose, and if the leaks and rumors to be believed, the upcoming iPhone Fold does not have it.

Though I never elaborated it to software level of discussions, one of the immediate questions I had for foldable (book styled) is that it has no media exclusive to the hardware. Positioning Foldable iPhone
The new onslaught of foldable iPhone rumors have been released: a. it will feature under-display camera for innards, b. it will feature Touch ID instead of Face ID, c. it will feature a larger battery, d. the foldable display will be crease-less, and finally e. it will be priced at $2,399. The prudence dictates we don’t jump to conclusions, but the rumors are suggesting the Californian company wishes to sell one iPhone at the price of two, possibly by bundling the two in one.
iPhone Air, Foldable iPhone, and iPad
There are rumors iPhone Air is a stepping stone toward a possible foldable iPhone set for 2026, 27, or even 28. Some are already speculating Apple will adopt foldable form factor starting with iPhone 18; hence, they added, iPhone 17 is less likely to succeed from the usual upgrade cycle. We won’t know the sales figure for a while, but I’m seeing two contradictory coverages on the new iPhone — either it was an unusual flop, or it was unusually high in demand, especially the base iPhone.
Upcoming iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods
Apple is set to release new iPhones, Apple Watches, and possibly some minor gadgets such as AirPods this coming Tuesday. The rumors surrounding each and every one of them were too comprehensive to the point the actual Keynote is likely going to be a repeat of the rumor mixed with Federighi’s “crack product marketing team” jokes. In other words, had it been a decade ago, this year would be an “s” year for the iPhones — minor improvement from previous year.
How to Set Orientation Lock with Action Button on iOS
Of many things Apple have added to iPhone, or removed from iPhone, one thing I do not understand is how half-baked Action Button is. It’s true that configurable button is more preferable, but it is also true Action Button is not configurable enough to become a new feature of its own. A lot of it comes down to what Shortcuts can do and can’t do, and while setting Orientation Lock is perfectly doable with a simple shortcut, it’s not clear cut why Apple hasn’t made this system-provided option.
When Nokia Downplayed Touchscreen on iPhone
Back in 2007, when Steve Jobs announced the first iPhone on stage, there were mixed responses to Apple’s new product. “Smartphones” weren’t around to capture the every historic moments, —and frankly, the PR nightmares tech companies faced— but with recently released Nokia Design Archive’s internal iPhone launch presentation, it seems the Finnish company decided to have their analysts take a look at iPhone launch. USB-C is on iPhone, But Type-C is still a Mess
I have written in several pieces that USB-C is not the silver bullet to the dongle problems. Even as Apple opened up its Lightning walled garden, presenters couldn’t simply say: ‘we have USB-C now’. It needed to be said what kind of spec this port will carry: how fast its USB protocol will be, how fast it will charge, and what other deviations it will support, and so on. One would think now this makes one less proprietary port, but I’m afraid the one bus to rule them all needs several other lesser busses to make it happen.

FBI is Still Nagging Apple for Backdoor Access
Apparently books on iPhone back doors from 2015 is not officially closed for FBI. FBI Director shared the actual stats behind the requests last Sunday, around 6,900 devices. Following the Texas shooting, FBI once again shared its frustration that the bureau was unable to decrypt the shooter’s phone. Although the law enforcement did not disclose what kind of information they may be able to find on the device, it only supports the hypothesis that FBI is using reactive policing as a cover for broader proactive policing.

Emerging adulthood gains its name from endless pursuit in open-ended, fruitless, and yet always irresponsible actions done by adults, the group of people who, bizarrely enough, can only be categorized by age.

Here Comes the Downhill of Mighty Apple
Let’s start with the obvious. Apparently nobody got it right because Apple was working on two iPhones simultaneously. Not only bigger, iPhone 6 plus is now competing against Galaxy Note. For dubious reasons, Apple decided to call it “iPhone,” but it’s not a phone and even Sammy knows it. 5.5″ is simply irrational, why 5.5? Apple’s biggest competitor Samsung’s Galaxy S5 has 5.1″ screen and Galaxy Note 4’s 5.7″. Meaning, It’s bigger than conventional phones, but smaller than portable tablets.
