App to Read X (Twitter) Threads without Logins
I still have an account from Twitter days, I rarely it. X, or formerly Twitter, is simply not my style. While I appreciate some official communications done through X as a backup in rapid response (e.g. service status), I wouldn’t mind it if the same memos were written on Bluesky, or else. In fact, I would very much prefer it if these services had simple blogs instead for us to infer to.
XCancel is a website designed to make threads on X readable without logging into the service. If, say, an announcement or a news is started on X as thread, it is impossible to read the original thread unless the reader also happen to be an X member — chances are it is a design with an intent. By simply replacing x.com in URL to xcancel.com, one can read up on whatever the news that are originally shared without needing to log in.
Personally, I believe the days of social media first strategy died in late 2000s, or as late as early 2010s. Unless there is a system-wide downtime, an organization should always have more professional and reliable means of communications. We have seen malicious attackers faking domains to scam people, and X is no exception. Unless X actually creates a pseudo-blog like feature to simply spread the word, without asking accounts or logins, I find it hilarious some news are primarily shared on X first. It’s beyond presumptuous to believe all people would subscribe to your social media platform of choice.
