How to Remove AirPods Max Headband
AirPods Max is likely the only Apple-made electronics that has mesh fibers instead of the usual choice of metals. Not that it doesn’t have metallic exteriors on the sides, it uses materials that needs maintenance as it tends to collect dust and other debris. The part needs to be cleaned most frequent, the ear cups, are attached magnetically and can be cleaned easily. It’s the mesh headband that makes it tedious to clean it.
- Rotate the AirPods Max so that both ear cups would face you.
- Remove the ear cups.
- Extend the telescoping bands as much as you can to remove easily.
- Using a SIM tool like pin, insert it to a tiny hole superior to (on the side still facing you, but still higher than) the speaker.
- Pull the band gently away from the speaker.
- Repeat from step. 4 on the other side.
The connector on each side of the bands are similar to that of the Lightning connectors. The band easily goes back in to the speakers, simply tug them in until it clicks; there is a slight twist so do be gentle during the process.
I wouldn’t recommend submerging the entire band in the water. Apple does have a support document detailing how to dip the head band, so it appears it isn’t recommended by the manufacturer either. In my case, I opted to use alcohol wipes and damp clothes I use for other electronics.
