App to Stop YouTube AI-Translation via User script

I had covered this issue before using a dedicated add-on on browsers. While it worked, there were two problems, at least in my opinion: a. it’s a separate app just for one website, b. it’s not available on iOS. Granted, I was not able to find a universal user script that works on both platforms, but tweaking it takes little to no effort as most of the script can be edited by the user.

The one I recommend is a forked version of YoutubeAutotranslateCanceler. Installing it on user script manager is simple; click on “here” link, then the manager will ask if you want to install it. It also comes with a good documentation on how to get the API key to get the script running. The key is mandatory, but it doesn’t ask for additional information or payment. It belongs to you, and it is only used to get the original title and descriptions and so on. Do be mindful it takes roughly 5-10 mins for initialization. It may give you the translated metadata until then.

I am testing out a bit of a tweaked version of the forked script. My goal is to get a universal script on both macOS and iOS, albeit temporary. YouTube changes its variables and others, so the script tends to break without proper maintenance. Also, I am sure I am in minority here, I prefer to have subtitles on PIP, which YouTube mobile app does not support. I use an additional extension to get subtitled PIP out of Safari. I will share the working version of the script, though I still think YouTube should simply give us the option to stop AI-translations in the first place.
