App to Track Unpatched GPU-Bugged Electron Apps

I thought to write this as a PSA piece, but there is also a great web app that could help along the way. Long story short, Electron framework, known to be used for desktop apps for cross-platform compatibility and web app likeliness, has a bug that causes GPU performances issues on macOS 26 Tahoe. The developers behind the Electron have already issued a patch on their end, now the balls are in the hands of app developers that used the framework.

Shameelectron is a web tracker that checks the list of popular apps, obviously not all apps, and whether or not they have issued a patched for Tahoe. Some of the notable apps that are on the list to have known to be fixed: Discord, Docker Desktop, Notion, Visual Studio Code.

Just by glancing at the numbers, it seems 2/3 of the Electron apps are not updated. 1Password, for example, is the password manager app I use, and is still to be updated. And as far as I’m aware, the Electron fix is in the “nightly” build, yet to make its way to official release yet. I’m not clear as to why some of the apps are having difficulties issuing the patch — Shameelectron doesn’t shed light on that front.

I’ve already written about how the app developers are playing catching up with the annual major upgrades from Apple. If the reliability of your system is paramount for your workflow, considering not to upgrade to the latest version may be an option. The rule of the thumb that I heard most often was to upgrade when the .1 version, a minor upgrade, is released. At the end of the day, I believe it is up to the app developers to communicate their timelines and potential compatibility issues with the users.
