If you have noticed outage, I must apologize. I was experimenting with what can be or should be done with Google Fonts. Of many things Google offers for free, Google Fonts is the platform caters to creative purposes without extra charge. Many font creators contribute towards the goal, and some of the fonts, such as Nanum series from Naver, became de facto fonts (for Korean language) for many. And Google is open to let other websites to take advantage of it.
MX Mechanical Mini Spiel
I had used full-sized MX Mechanical for a while. As much as I appreciated how it met most of my demands, there was always the lingering sense of doubt in myself — wouldn’t a smaller keyboard have fared better on desk. After all, desk space is always a prime real estate for me. I prefer to work on large draft tables and black boards, but they are not always available. Seeing as the split keyboard — split between the numpad and the remaining TKL (Tenkeyless) — is in a niche market, full-sized keyboard seemed liked an only option.
How to Enable Legacy Desktop Icons on Windows 11
Beginning with Windows 8, if I recall correctly, Microsoft has been trying to make Windows a hybrid OS for both the touchscreen devices (e.g. tablets) and computers with traditional displays (e.g. laptops and desktops). It is only a personal opinion, and quite unfounded one at that, but I don’t believe Windows 8 excelled at either; hence, why iPad is still the staple of tablets. Its legacy has survived even to this day on Windows 11.
Home Safety Hotline Spiel
There is a saying, I was told, in horror community, nobody cares if it’s a mystery, a thriller, a supernatural — they are all scary, therefore horror. I am reminded of it once again, as I found the Home Safety Hotline was labeled a horror and puzzle game; latter of which is certainly true. Home Safety Hotline is as much a horror as legends and mythologies can be, including the German varieties.
How to Disable “Let’s Finish Setting Up Your Device” Notification on Windows
Windows has some handholding tools that would be useful for average users, but unavoidably redundant. One such tool is the post-installation wizard Windows keeps raising attention to with the prompt “Let’s Finish Setting Up Your Device”. Of many things the wizard offers, one of them is to login via Microsoft account. However, as I have said previously, not all features are always needed, and I need a solution to make sure the popup or the prompt wouldn’t disturb me in the future.
Goodbye Intel Macs and Mac Pros
Apple is finally shutting down all Intel support for macOS in coming 2026. macOS Tahoe, or 26, will be the last version to support x86 Macs as know it. Given the timing, it means within a year or so, most users would also need to switch over to Apple Silicon unless they have specific reason to stay with an Intel machine that is no longer receiving software updates. It would also mark the end of Hackintosh endeavor as we know it.
How to Remove Gallery from Navigation Pane on File Explorer
Coming from macOS environment, one of the immediate changes I want to make to File Explorer on Windows would be the items available on the sidebar, or navigation pane. I don’t store photos on a Windows machine; in fact, I have them stored on a NAS, which is running a flavor of Linux. Gallery on File Explorer doesn’t help, especially when it can scramble pictures from different project folders.
How to Disable Web Search on Taskbar
If your go-to machine is running Windows, chances are there are some bundled-in features and softwares that aren’t either used or ideal for your work flow. For me, especially as I am running Windows primarily on virtual machines, is web search on taskbar. If I were to search something on the taskbar or file explorer, I want the scope of the results to be confined to what is available locally; if I were to search online, I would have used Google or DuckDuckGo, not Bing.
Unicorn Overlord Spiel
There was a JRPG that’s been sitting on a back burner for a while. Unicorn Overlord is a strategy-JRPG, which tried its own unique blend of turn-based combat. In fact, I would go so far to argue it is a strategy game in a JRPG interface. What drew me in was its clever take on JRPG’s often repetitive combats. Previously, I’ve discussed highly of how modern JRPG has been trying to tackle repetitive combats in late games. Unicorn Overlord combines the both genres to fill-in the blanks.
How to Disable Microsoft Account on Windows
Microsoft has been aggressively pushing online accounts on local machines as far back as Windows 8, if I recall correctly. Beginning with Windows 10, now the operating system constantly demands the user is recommended to login via an online account instead. All of my Windows installations are virtual, and logging into my actual Microsoft account doesn’t give me any additional benefit.
Display over USB-C is a Nightmare
Apple had taken a step back its USB-C only doctrine with reverting back to MagSafe for power, 3.5mm headphone jack for audio, HDMI for display, and embedded SD card reader for SD cards. These were the some of the ports and features most professionals wanted out in the field without carrying an additional item. It is more true than ever when Apple Silicon Macs don’t need a charger with its full-day battery life. If so, what became of USB-C? Why so suddenly Macs became divergent on USB-C?
App to Install Latest macOS on Legacy Devices
With the leak macOS 26 may be named Tahoe, I’m seeing reports on the list of the devices that will be left behind. No doubt this is more a concern for personal Macs than ones handled in an organization — they would already have made an upgrade plan. It is likely Apple will release few more major versions of macOS in x86, and if your machine is capable of meeting the needs, it is possible to install the latest macOS on your legacy-listed Mac.
Apple to Streamline Its OS Naming in 2025
It’s that time of the year for Apple’s product announcement: WWDC. We already know the California-based company will announce new OS with some witty jokes, but we’ve already seen two major issues with annual release cycle: one. the supposed major update is no longer significant enough, and two. the aside from macOS, all of the iOS and its variants have inconsistent numberings.
App to Turn off Internal Display on MacBook without Clamshell Mode
MacBooks are known for its clamshell mode — I think laptop’s popularity plays a big role. It does make sense why it could be more appealing. As of now, maxed out M4 chip is available on both MacBook Pro and Mac Studio, and the heat throttling from form factor is known to be minimal. I’ve seen some professionals jokingly suggesting the IT must have chosen the laptop over Studio, because setting up a UPS for the workstation could cost more.
Inscryption Spiel: How Much Game Should Reveal Itself?
Spoiler alert for the game ahead. The game Inscryption was released in 2021, and I suspect most of the hypes and attentions it had once received have settled down since. Back in 2021, I ended up postponing writing a piece for the game, as I believed the game was technically being played out and discussed in the community. Much of the topic I am about to discuss has less to do with the game itself, but how the game was advertised and sold.
