A peculiar story of a buyer whose $4,429 order for an Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 got canceled is going around. Nvidia refunded the money and pointed at Asus. A $500 increase had landed after the order went through. The community reaction was the usual one: gouging, dishonest sellers, somebody taking advantage. None of that is wrong. It is also just how this market has run for as long as I have been buying into it.

Benchmarks, dGPU, and Apple Silicon
When I bought my Mac Pro in 2019, I was running under the two assumptions: a. Apple may not be able to deliver competent SoC until later iterations, b. Apple will surely support Pro models for non-ARM works. I was sorely mistaken on both parts. Apple did deliver its M1 with huge success, and now Mac Mini —that Mac Mini— is on the list for cheapest and most cost-effective workstations. What really caught me off guard was how Apple showed no hesitance to throw away its AMD graphics card support, the last of its kind on Mac front.
When Macs with Nvidia Graphics Won’t Boot, with Full Loading Bar
While current Retina lines of Macs tend to run on Intel iGPUs and AMD Radeons, previous generation was primarily delivered with Nvidia’s. It shouldn’t come as a surprise then if Nvidia is not opting Mac in to their extended support. If you are experiencing the issue I am describing, I can only hope you have a backup.
